The general aim of the annual conference and course Libraries in the Digital Age (LIDA), started in 2000, is to address the changing and challenging environment for libraries and information systems and services in the digital world, with an emphasis on examining contemporary problems, advances and solutions. Each year a different and ot?theme is addressed, divided in two parts; the first part covers research and development and the second part addresses advances in applications and practice. LIDA seeks to bring together researchers, practitioners, and developers in a forum for personal exchanges, discussions, and learning, made easier by being held in memorable locations.

The ACRL Science and Technology Section's (STS) Research Committee invites
submission of abstracts of research papers to be given at the STS Forum for
Science & Technology Library Research in Chicago on Sunday, June 26, 2005,
from 2:00-4:00 pm at the ALA Annual Conference in June, 2005. The Research
Forum provides an excellent opportunity to share recent research addressing
issues in science and technology librarianship in its broadest sense. Two
proposals will be selected through a blind review process on the basis of
timeliness, evidence of scholarship, and relevance to science and
technology librarianship.

ABSTRACT: An abstract not exceeding 250 words should convey the title and
purpose of the project, its scope, methodology, conclusions, and relevance
to science and technology librarianship. Priority will be given to papers
that indicate research analyses, either quantitative or qualitative.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS: January 10, 2005. Papers will be
selected at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Boston by the STS Research Committee.

PAPERS: Acceptance of proposals reflects a commitment by the author(s) to
provide presentations of no longer than 30 minutes at the ALA Annual
Conference in Chicago.

SUBMISSIONS: Abstracts should be submitted via e-mail to Karen Grigg at
grigg012@mc.duke.edu, Co-Chair of the STS Research Committee. Be sure to

Annual Conference Chicago, 2005.

The ACRL STS Research Committee and STS Program Planning Committee invite proposals for posters to be exhibited at the STS Section's reception
following the annual program at ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. Posters
will be displayed from 12:30-1:30 pm, immediately following the STS Program
during the STS Reception on Monday, June 27, 2005.

We encourage proposals for posters relating to the program theme, "The New
Crossroads: Science Librarians in the 21st Century." The program will look
at the roles of 21st century science and technology librarians. Focus will
be on the new and future roles of librarians, not only in the ways they
provide services to their clientele, but also, establishing partnerships,
coalitions, and connections at the personal and organizational levels.
Posters may outline a research project or analytical study, describe a new
service or collection management initiative, or address issues facing
sci/tech libraries today.

The STS Research Committee will select posters for the Chicago session
through a blind review process at ALA Midwinter on the basis of timeliness,
thoughtfulness, and relevance to sci/tech librarianship.

ALA Poster Session Applications for 2005 Annual Conference, Chicago, Illinois, USA

Dear members of the USA and International Library Community. We want you to show members of the national and international library community your best ideas!

Applications for presenting poster sessions for both US and International participants at the 2005 American Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago are now being accepted. An application form is available on the poster session website at http://www.lib.iastate.edu/alaThe website also provides rules and guidelines for presenting poster sessions, helpful hints in applying, subject categories for sessions, frequently asked questions, and photos of sample poster sessions.

The deadline for submitting an application is January 31, 2005. Applicants will be notified by March 31, 2005 whether their poster sessions have been accepted for presentation at the conference. Poster sessions will be presented on June 25, 26, and 27 at the Chicago conference.
